Every year, sepsis silently strikes down at least 1.7 million adults in the United States, a number that continues to rise. As the population ages, antibiotic resistance grows and more individuals manage chronic diseases, the threat of sepsis looms larger than ever. “Sepsis results from an infection that the body struggles to combat,” said Dr. Chad Radke, an emergency physician at Aspirus Health.

The Shawano Area Writers (SAW) decided that, to reach out to more people who have the desire to write, an additional monthly meeting should be made available to the public. This week I selected a three-book set from BookBub. The cozy mysteries by Michele Pariza Wacek feature inadvertent sleuth Charlotte “Charlie” Kingsley and are set in the small town of Redemption, Wisconsin. “The Murder Before Christmas,” “Ice Cold Murder” and “Murder Next Door” gave me a bit of Charlie’s backstory. Escaping an abusive relationship, she got lost and stopped for information in Redemption, which turned into her permanent residence.

Being around animals my whole life, and especially dairy animals, I’ve come to discover they definitely communicate over and above our human awareness.
