Investigators were contacting family members in area missing persons cases this week, gathering information they hope could help identify human remains discovered in the town of Richmond over the weekend. The Chargers girls won just two events but had plenty of athletes place to outpace second-place Wausau Newman Catholic and third-place Peshtigo. “I was a little surprised,” Wittenberg-Birnamwood coach Mike Balliett said.

Beautiful racing weather greeted race-hungry Shawano Speedway fans Saturday. Eighty-three racers were on hand to try mastering the historic half-mile oval on the season’s opening night. The Northern Gardeners Garden Club will take part in the Milwaukee Garden Tour on July 31 to Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum. This museum is located on Lake Michigan bluffs and has re-created the classic elements of the 16th century Tuscan landscape. Participants will have lunch at the Boerner Botanical Gardens in the glass, two-story atrium that has a terrace view and a formal garden backdrop.

“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” has been selected as the summer musical to be presented from July 31-Aug. 3 in the Meunier-Pelow Auditorium at Gillett Secondary School. The show, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Burt Shrevlove and Larry Gelbert (“M*A*S*H), opened on Broadway in 1962 and won several Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Book. Auditions will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Cheryl A. Roderick, 62, Oconto Falls, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014. She was born on Aug. 21, 1951. Survivors include three children, Rhonda (Shawn) LaCount, Jesse Croxford and Jamie Croxford, and five grandchildren, Adam, Justice, Aundrea, Seth and Rheanna. Per Cheryl’s wishes, private services were held. Newcomer Funeral Home is assisting the family in arrangements.
