An Oconto man died May 16 in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 41 north of the city. Oconto County Sheriff Todd Skarban said in a news release that the Emergency Dispatch Center received a call at 11:03 a.m.

The Oconto Falls City Council cleared the way May 13 for the Oconto County Farmers Market to relocate to Memorial Field starting this summer. After four summers next to Highland Plaza along Highland Drive, the weekly market will be staged at the former high school football field behind the new fire station. “In the future, we’d love to work with the city to make this a permanent home for us,” market organizer Sophie Ford told the council.

Faced with a lack of applications for a new beach supervisor, the city of Oconto Falls will probably maintain its beaches without lifeguards this summer with increased signage that people swim at their own risk. City Administrator Peter Wills told the city council they have been advertising for a beach supervisor since December in various venues.

At least one of two long-vacant businesses at the Oconto Falls northwest city limits is coming back to life. Ben Holtger recently bought the former Mobil station and convenience store at 710 County Road B at a sheriff’s sale. He told the Oconto Falls City Council at its May 13 meeting that he’s been busy clearing up liens and judgments on the property. “I’ve been working on cleaning up,” he said.
