Jacob Pliska didn’t mind getting up early June 20.

It had something to do with fishing, which was right up the Rosholt 13-year-old’s alley.

Pliska was one of hundreds of people – from young kids to senior citizens – to show up in Eland for the 36th annual Eland Fisheree. They tried their luck at catching one of the Eland Millpond’s stocked rainbow trout, many of them more than a foot long.

Brandon Groshek’s solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning broke a 3-3 tie and gave Elderon a 4-3 North Division win over Hatley on June 21 as part of a full slate of BABA games played over the Father’s Day weekend.

The Nitros cut into the lead with a three-run seventh, but the Mudhens answered with two more runs in the bottom half of the inning to go up 6-3.

Nichols scored the game’s final runs in the top of the ninth inning.

Stacey Cicero is expected to begin her duties as Shawano County’s newest administrative coordinator June 29.

Her hiring was recommended by the executive committee June 17 and is expected to be approved by the full county board June 24.

“This just makes it official,” Julie Hasser told the executive committee. “She did accept the position.”

There is enough evidence to move forward with a trial for Lawrence Fields, Shawano-Menominee Circuit Court Judge Katherine Sloma ruled June 18 after a detective described what Fields allegedly did to a girl when she was 6 years old.

Fields, 64, faces one count of first-degree child sex assault and one count of exposing genitals to a child. The Seymour resident is currently being held in the Shawano County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond.

Shawano County officials agreed to use the county’s contingency fund to pay its share of a grant that will update several pieces of equipment in the dispatch center.

Members of the executive committee voted June 17 to pull $70,582.90 from its coffers, its share of a $705,829 grant received from the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs Office of Emergency Communications.

A 32-year-old Town of Wescott man is facing up to 60 years in prison for inappropriately touching a 12-year-old girl staying at his home.

Jakob Malitz has been charged with first-degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 13. A $20,000 cash bond was imposed on him at an initial hearing June 10.

An Indiana teen claimed he could not be arrested for sexual assault with a girl under age 16 because of Romeo and Juliet laws in his state, but he was arrested anyway and could wind up spending much of his adult life in prison.
