City, county targeting 911 abusers

Anyone who calls 911 had better be reporting an emergency or a perceived emergency, or else they should be prepared to pay. The Shawano Common Council on Wednesday adopted an ordinance providing stiff fines for misuse of 911, and the Shawano County Public Safety Committee unanimously approved a recommendation on Wednesday for a similar ordinance. Schools budget gets high marks from consultant
Shawano School District administrators knew they were budgeting cautiously, but now they have third-party confirmation. Circuit Court sides with Lighthouse Pub
The Lighthouse Pub in Wescott gets to keep its concrete patio after a circuit court ruling Wednesday ended a four-year legal battle with the Shawano County Board of Adjustment. Owners Jeff and Tammy Stachowiak have been fighting an order to remove the patio since 2009 when their original request for an after-the-fact variance was denied. “We knew we were right all along,” Jeff Stachowiak said after the ruling.

City sells cable TV, Internet services
City officials sealed the deal Wednesday for the sale of Shawano Municipal Utilities’ cable TV and high-speed Internet services. Joan S. Korth
Joan Shirley Korth, 79, of Shawano, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at Oak Haven. Born on Feb. 4, 1934, in Gresham, she was the daughter of the late Anton and Mathilda (Hoffman) Lechterman. On Nov. 16, 1957, she was united in marriage to Roger M. Korth in the town of Richmond. The couple owned and operated Korth’s General Store. Joan also worked as a cook at Heartland Health Care Center in Shawano. She was a member of the St.

Chad E. Welhouse, 38, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous five-year battle with lung cancer on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013. He was born on Jan. 15, 1975, to Dennis and Nancy Welhouse and resided in Hollandtown. Shawano to honor 3 athletes
The Shawano Community High School athletics hall of fame will welcome three new additions in a ceremony Saturday morning before the Hawks’ homecoming game against Marinette.
