Betty J. Tesch, 71, of Merrill, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013. Betty was born June 26, 1942, in Green Bay, daughter of Hazel (Toellner) Zuehlsdorf, of Bonduel, and the late Herbert Zuehlsdorf. Betty was raised in the Bonduel area prior to her marriage to Kenneth R. Tesch in 1965. He survives, along with two children, her mother, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a sister and two brothers. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.

Andy Paul Beaudin, 80, of Mason Woods, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, Oct. 23, 2013, at his home with his loving family by his side. Dorothy Anna Mohr, of Shawano, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, on her 99th birthday. Born in Dodge County, she was the oldest of four children born to the late Maxamillion and Regina (Rake) Maier. She was raised on the family farm north of Columbus. After graduating from high school at the age of 16, she attended a county normal school and began her teaching career at the age of 17.

On Sunday, Garth Ashley will be 92 years old.

Tonia Wilber is concerned about bullying at schools in the Menominee Indian School District, and she is finding that others are equally concerned. Wilber has gathered 216 signatures on petitions she has taken around the reservation and plans to present them to the School Board on Nov. 4.

Former Stockbridge-Munsee president Robert Chicks pleaded no contest Thursday to one of the misdemeanor charges that sparked a recall effort and led to his removal from office. Chicks was charged in Langlade County with a misdemeanor count of obstructing an officer after giving a false name when pulled over by police in Antigo on Jan. 10.

Anyone who intentionally calls 911 for a nonemergency or pocket dials the emergency line frequently could be fined in the future. The Shawano County Board on Wednesday unanimously approved an ordinance making 911 abuse a county offense and subject to county fines. The Shawano Common Council adopted a similar ordinance on Oct. 9. Anyone with three offenses will be fined $200, plus court costs, under the county ordinance.

Traffic fatalities are down in Shawano County and across Wisconsin, officials reported this week. As of Tuesday, the county had five traffic fatalities, way down from the 13 reported at the same time last year. Mike Panosh of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation told the county Highway Safety Commission that the state reported 431 fatalities, 80 fewer than the same time period in 2012. “Last year was just one of those years,” Panosh said.
