Shirley A. Kraeger, 83, of Shawano, and formerly of the Marion area, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at her home. The former Shirley Anne Felts was born Aug. 29, 1930, in the town of Seneca, Shawano County, to William and Olga (Giessel) Felts. As a young girl, her parents attended and "lived at" many county fairs, especially in Shawano and Wausau.
Packers stay alive with 22-21 win
The Green Bay Packers got a shutout performance from its struggling defense in the second half Sunday and a solid offensive performance without Aaron Rodgers en route to a 22-21 win over the Atlanta Falcons in Green Bay. “Excellent win today for our football team. City gets grant for Sturgeon Trail
The Shawano Country Tourism Council announced this week that it has awarded a $10,000 grant to the city of Shawano. Keith Marquardt, chairman of the Tourism Development Fund Committee, said the funds will be used to purchase land for the Wolf River Sturgeon Trail expansion.
Bears get 54-20 win over Gillett
Deanna Zernicke continued on fire from beyond the 3-point arc Friday, and the Bonduel High School girls basketball team got win No. 2, 54-20 over Gillett on the road. Zernicke, a 5-foot-6 junior guard, connected on five 3-pointers to lead the Bears with 15 points.

Shawano High trying to improve reading scores
Shawano Community High School is working to integrate reading in some form into every class, including physical education. The change is being made to improve the school’s reading scores on the state’s standardized tests, according to principal Scott Zwirschitz.

Wilbur A. Dehn
Wilbur August-Otto Dehn, 81, of Shawano, passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013. Born on Sept. 1, 1932, in the town of Hartland, he was the son of the late Charles and Luella (Moesch) Dehn. Wilbur lived most of his life in the Bonduel area, where he enjoyed farm life. On May 22, 1965, he was united in marriage to Darlene Theilig. The couple lived near Bonduel until moving to Shawano 20 years ago. Wilbur was a member of St.
