Shirley A. Kraeger, 83, of Shawano, and formerly of the Marion area, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at her home. The former Shirley Anne Felts was born Aug. 29, 1930, in the town of Seneca, Shawano County, to William and Olga (Giessel) Felts. As a young girl, her parents attended and "lived at" many county fairs, especially in Shawano and Wausau.

The Shawano Country Tourism Council announced this week that it has awarded a $10,000 grant to the city of Shawano. Keith Marquardt, chairman of the Tourism Development Fund Committee, said the funds will be used to purchase land for the Wolf River Sturgeon Trail expansion.

Shawano Community High School is working to integrate reading in some form into every class, including physical education. The change is being made to improve the school’s reading scores on the state’s standardized tests, according to principal Scott Zwirschitz.

Wilbur August-Otto Dehn, 81, of Shawano, passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013. Born on Sept. 1, 1932, in the town of Hartland, he was the son of the late Charles and Luella (Moesch) Dehn. Wilbur lived most of his life in the Bonduel area, where he enjoyed farm life. On May 22, 1965, he was united in marriage to Darlene Theilig.
