Sugar I. Zimmerman, 68, of Green Bay, passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, in Green Bay. Born on Aug. 26, 1945, in Morgan, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Gretta (Tousey) Jacobs. Sugar worked as a CNA. Her caring personality would shine through to all of those around her, especially on her children and beloved grandchildren. She had a quick wit and a good sense of humor and believed everything happened for a reason, whether good or bad.

Eleanor Olson, 93, formerly of the Township of Larrabee, Waupaca County, passed away on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at the Greentree Health & Rehabilitation Center, Clintonville. Eleanor was born on Sept. 15, 1920, in Mattoon, Shawano County, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Magdalene (Waideliche) Jahnke. Eleanor was baptized on Sept. 26, 1920, and confirmed on May 13, 1934, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mattoon.

The Bonduel School Board hopes to have a new district administrator to replace Peter Behnke by early May. Behnke, 62, announced last week he would retire June 30 after 25 years in Bonduel. The board held a special meeting Monday to discuss the process, when to review applications and when to conduct interviews. Behnke said he anticipated 15 to 25 applicants for the position and suggested that the board pick six to eight for interviews.

Laurie Boivin was elected chairwoman of the Menominee Tribal Legislature at an annual reorganizational meeting Sunday, replacing Craig Corn, who served as chairman for the last two years. The vote returns Boivin to the role she last held in 2010.

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School wrestling team earned its third consecutive championship, Bonduel placed second and Menominee Indian third Saturday at the Central Wisconsin Conference tournament in Wittenberg. Wittenberg-Birnamwood, which wiwrestling.com has ranked as the No. 2 team in Division 2, finished with seven champions.

The Shawano Community High School boys basketball team was the clear favorite going into Tuesday’s Bay Conference game with Oconto Falls. When the Panthers handed the Hawks 25 extra chances — that is 25 turnovers — the mismatch only grew. Shawano (11-8, 9-4 Bay) beat Oconto Falls 59-33. “We’re a good defensive team,” Shawano coach Chris Kellett said. “We pride ourselves on getting stops night in and night out.

Bonduel girls defeat Weyauwega-Fremont The Bonduel High School girls basketball team beat Weyauwega-Fremont 56-50 in a Central Wisconsin Conference-8 game Tuesday in Weyauwega. Jennifer Dowden led Bonduel (14-3, 8-2 CWC-8) with 23 points. Alexa Reinke had 11 points and six rebounds.

Bonduel boys defeat Manawa The Bonduel High School boys basketball team beat Manawa 67-48 in a Central Wisconsin Conference-8 game Friday in Bonduel. Zach Zernicke led Bonduel (9-9, 4-6 CWC8) with 16 points.

The Shawano Community High School boys swim team took second place in the Great Northern Conference meet Friday in Rhinelander. Shawano had a team score of 298, bested only by Lakeland Union’s 326. Zach Soper took firsts in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100 backstroke and was named the Great Northern Conference swimmer of the year. Griffin Rades took first in the 200 individual medley.
