The Gillett High School girls basketball team lost to Niagara 33-27 in a Marinette & Oconto Conference game Thursday in Niagara.
Kara Brennan led Gillett (5-11, 5-5 M&O) with 11 points.
Casey Spigarelli scored 14 points to lead Niagara (6-8, 6-4 M&O).

The Oconto Falls High School boys basketball team exploded in the second quarter to take a dominating lead in a 69-40 win over Gillett in a nonconference game Saturday in Oconto Falls.
The two teams were tied 12-12 after the first quarter when the Panthers (3-14, 2-11 Bay) exerted control, outscoring the Tigers 22-5 in the second quarter.
It’s a match that could pay long-term dividends for the Oconto Falls High School wrestling program.
The Panthers had the daunting task of traveling to rival Luxemburg-Casco on Thursday night and were handed an overwhelming 43-15 defeat.
However, facing some of the best wrestlers in the state should make the young Oconto Falls grapplers get better, especially with regionals right around the corner.

The Oconto Falls High School girls basketball team bounced back from a tough 58-55 loss Friday to Hortonville with a 42-31 victory over Seymour on Saturday night in Oconto Falls.
Oconto Falls coach Mike Kaczmarek Jr. said his team was just trying to get back on track.
“We were just trying to somehow, some way come out of here with a win,” Kaczmarek said.
At 11:41 a.m. Feb. 5, a woman from Oconto Falls was delivering mail on County Road K, 50 feet north of state Highway 22 in the town of Oconto Falls. She was stopped at a mailbox and had an amber light operating on top of her vehicle. An Oconto Falls man driving a northbound vehicle stated he was distracted by another vehicle at the intersection and struck the rear of the woman’s car. Minor damage was reported to both vehicles.

An Oconto Falls man, 24, was arrested for battery and a probation violation Jan. 27 after a domestic disturbance at an apartment on North Main Street.
Two Oconto Falls women, ages 25 and 27, were cited for shoplifting $35 worth of clothing from New Beginnings Store/Work and Training Center, 230 Van Buren St., on Jan. 24.
An Oconto Falls woman, 21, was referred to the district attorney’s office Jan.

Amy M. Nieto, 27, Suring, pleaded no contest to five counts of theft from the Oconto County Department of Human Services, which took place from June 2011 to May 2012. She was ordered to spend nine months in jail on each count, which was imposed and stayed.
