Late runs lift Hofa Park Panthers over Pulaski Reds

Carson Blom’s two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning erased a 4-3 deficit for the Hofa Park Panthers into a 5-4 Dairyland League win over Pulaski June 28.

The Panthers trailed by a run heading into the bottom of the ninth inning.

Beau Jensen’s RBI single in the fourth inning gave Hofa Park a 1-0 lead, but Pulaski tied it on Jarrett Olson’s RBI single in the fifth.

Meverdens help lead Birnamwood over Hatley

Mason and Evan Meverden had big games for Birnamwood’s BABA team, as the Kings needed only seven innings to pick up a 16-1 North Division win over Hatley June 26.

Mason Meverden had five of the Kings’ 16 hits, while Evan Meverden added three of his own, including a grand slam.

Owen Dickman and Logan Thiex added two hits each.

Tribe wins lawsuit filed by Legend Lake property owners

The Wisconsin Supreme Court on June 23 ruled 4-3 in favor of the Menominee Tribe of Wisconsin against the Legend Lake Property Owners Association, upholding tribal sovereign immunity and dismissing the association’s lawsuit.

Board adopts moratorium on data center development

Members of the Shawano County Board on June 24 adopted a 12-month moratorium on the siting, construction, establishment and operation of data centers in the unincorporated towns in Shawano County that have approved the county’s zoning authority.

It does not affect any cities, villages or the towns of Almon, Bartelme, Belle Plaine, Hartland, Hutchins, Lessor, Pella, Richmond and Wescott, all of which have their own zoning laws.

Single-family and multifamily housing units have recently been built in Shawano, Bonduel and Wittenberg, but Peter Thillman said more work still needs to be done for supply to meet demand in Shawano County.

Thillman, executive director of Shawano Community Economic Progress Inc., provided an annual update to the Shawano County Board on June 24.

He thanked the board for investing in a 2022 housing study.
