The Shawano County Board of Supervisors took a stand against the residency rules included in Wisconsin Act 20, which went into effect in July, but it was far from being a sign of solidarity. The board voted 18-8, with one abstention, Wednesday to object to the act, which was created in the state budget for 2013-15 and was signed into law by Gov.

A rural Shawano man has been charged with the sexual assault of two children, including the repeated assault of an autistic 8-year-old girl. Douglas S. Reynolds, 51, faces felony counts of first-degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 12 and first-degree sexual contact with a child under the age of 13. If convicted, Reynolds could face a maximum 60 years in prison on each count.

Sparks flew Wednesday over a new partnership between the Bonduel School District and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. Richard L. Koeller, 73, of Shawano, passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Birch Hill Care Center in Shawano, following a lengthy illness. Richard was born Sept. 19, 1940, in Shawano, a son of the late Walter and Lydia (Buhrandt) Koeller. He attended the Shawano schools, graduating from Shawano High School. On Jan. 17, 1958, he entered the United States Army, serving his country until Jan.

Fred C. “Smiley” Pieper, 79, of Gresham, passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at his home. Born on Oct. 27, 1933, in Sampson, he was the son of the late Fred and Ida (Hess) Pieper. On Sept. 5, 1970, he was united in marriage to Renee Hoffman in Michigan. Fred worked for Foreway Express for more than 28 years.
