• Mister Pernell Anthony, 37, Shawano, was charged Nov. 25 with two counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety, two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, and misdemeanor charges of pointing a firearm at a person and battery. Judge William Kussel Jr. set a $7,500 cash bond and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Dec. 4.

• Brian J. Ermis Jr., 24, Suring, was charged Nov. 24 with two counts of felony bail jumping and a misdemeanor count of possession of THC. Judge Michael Judge set a $5,000 cash bond and adjourned his initial appearance until Dec. 15.

Deputies responded to 29 incidents, including property damage on County Road MM in the Town of Richmond; juvenile alcohol on County Road CCC in the Town of Waukechon; one 911 call; one reckless driving incident; one traffic hazard; six crashes, three involving deer.

County treasurer announces retirement plans

Shawano County Treasurer Deb Wallace, reelected to a four-year term in 2024, will retire three years early.

Wallace submitted her retirement notice in November, and her last day will be Dec. 19.

“She’s been here 16 years. That’s a lot of great service,” said Julie Hasser, interim administrative coordinator and human resources director. “She’s been a valued asset to our county, and we appreciate her dedication.”

Abrams theater to hold silent auction

Abrams Spotlight Production Inc. will hold its annual silent auction from noon Dec. 10 to 8 p.m. Dec. 14.

Pound couple honored for commitment to helping children thrive

A couple from Pound were among 10 families honored last month by the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families at the Governor’s Outstanding Families Awards. The awards were presented during a celebration at the Pyle Center in Madison as part of Wisconsin’s month-long proclaimed Adoption month.

New sawmill creates jobs with USDA loan

U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Wisconsin State Director Andrew C. Iverson announced the Timber Professionals Cooperative Enterprises (TPCE) will use a Rural Development loan of $800,000 to reopen and expand the former Hoffman Wood Fiber LLC sawmill east of Tilleda in Shawano County.

This investment is through the Timber Production Expansion Guaranteed Loan Program.
