Speedway group given tentative green flag

Members of the Shawano Area Ag Society were tentatively given the green light to shorten the Shawano Speedway from a half mile to three-eighths of a mile.

The county’s public property took a straw poll of its members Dec. 11, and all agreed to move forward with the proposal once a few more hurdles are cleared.

Former Menominee County sheriff dies at 78

Former Menominee County Sheriff Richard Moses Sr. died unexpectedly at his home Dec. 9. He was 78.

The world of artificial intelligence is coming to Shawano County government operations.

Members of the executive committee agreed Dec. 10 to enroll in a six-month pilot program in 2026 with GovAI.

“We don’t want to delay it anymore,” said Matt Hietpas, technology services director. “We agree there’s some use, very valuable use, for not only our employees but the residents of Shawano County, too.”

Council incumbents, Milavitz take out paperwork

Shawano’s mayoral and city council incumbents up for election in April have taken out paperwork to run for another term.
