Sawyer Kamba and Shane Blum each scored 12 points, and Elijah Scheef added 10 as Marion defeated Gillett 52-41.

The Mustangs led 28-14 at the half and held on for the win despite a 27-24 second half in favor of the Tigers.

Bradyn Wendorff led Gillett with 11 points.

Hawks hockey team carves out 4-2 win

In a battle of co-op boys hockey teams, Shawano/Bonduel defeated Chequamegon/Phillips/Butternut 4-2 on Dec. 20 at the Crawford Center in Shawano.

The Hawks opened the game three goals in the first period.

Michael Dillenberg scored at 9:08 with Teagan Harkey and Quinten Harkey assisting. Gavin Hundt scored unassisted at 13:53, and Cameron Schroeder had help from Waylon Snider when he scored at 16:58.

Chargers take charge early in win over Amherst

Two Central Wisconsin Conference-East girls basketball teams heading in opposite directions met for the first of two times this season Dec. 19 in Wittenberg.

When the final buzzer sounded, Wittenberg-Birnamwood had notched its ninth straight win – an 83-14 victory over Amherst – while the Falcons returned home with their third straight loss after starting the season 6-0.
