The Gillett Library will hold a community brainstorming session to discuss the new community center/community square project. The session begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, in the former BMO Harris Bank building, 204 E. Main St., Gillett. The library purchased the bank with plans to create a community center and transform the outdoor space around both buildings into a community square.

The Pickerel Chain Lake Association (PCLA) plans to install aeration systems in three lakes, beginning with Pickerel Lake this year. The Pickerel Chain, located in the town of Townsend, incorporates three interconnected lakes: Pickerel, Little Pickerel and Smoke.

Rainbow House will host a series of programs about dating for teenagers 13 to 18. The sessions will feature casual conversation and guest speakers. Sessions will take place from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesdays from July 9-30 at the Gillett Public Library, 200 E. Main St., Gillett, and from 5-6 p.m. Mondays from July 7-28 at Suring Village Hall, 604 E. Main St.

The second annual patriotic sing-along, “I Pledge Allegiance,” an original Americantata, is looking for singers to lead the group singing and perform choral pieces surrounding the history of America’s Pledge of Allegiance. Rehearsals will be held from 3-5 p.m. Sundays, June 22 and 29, in the Meunier-Pelow Auditorium in Gillett Secondary School. The production will be performed at 7 p.m. Monday, June 30, in the Meunier-Pelow Auditorium.

The Oconto Falls Friends of the Arts will present six shows in its 2014-15 Fine Arts Series. Missoula Children’s Theatre will involve 50 local children in the retelling of “Rapunzel.” The show will be presented at 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Falls Area Performing Arts Center at Oconto Falls High School. Tickets are $11 for adults and $6 for students. Irish tenor Anthony Kearns will perform at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at the PAC.

Joan Chaput, 82, of Crooked Lake, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2014. She was born in Milwaukee to the late Charles and Clara (Mueller) Bayer on Feb. 15, 1932. She is survived by her sister, Marion Reik, of Milwaukee, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Francis “Shorty,” on Nov.

Carol Cox, 76, lifelong resident of Abrams, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, following a longtime battle with COPD.

The Oconto Falls American Legion baseball team improved to 2-0 with a 4-3 win over Menominee on a windy Thursday in Keshena. “It was one of those games where, we’re done now, and I’m still not comfortable that we won,” Oconto Falls coach Chris Hillberg said.
