Berrylakers showed their spirit and patriotism by wearing red, white and blue for the annual Fourth of July boat parade and competition July 5 at Berry Lake. The theme was Patriotic. Nine families participated. First place went to the Jensen family for best family performance.

The Oconto County Historical Society invites artists to exhibit their work at the society’s 11th annual art show from Saturday, July 26, and through Sunday, Aug. 10, at the Beyer Home Museum complex.. Anyone connected to Oconto County is eligible to exhibit up to two pieces of their work. Any medium is accepted. Work from past artists is also welcomed. Artists are also invited to provide live demonstrations to showcase their skills.

The Oconto Falls Area Ambulance Service is accepting submissions for a T-shirt design contest. The winning design will be voted upon by the members. It will be printed onto hundreds of shirts and sold to the public as part of the service’s annual fundraising effort. The winning designer will receive a $50 Visa gift card. The guidelines follow: 1. Designs should be single-sided, intended for either the front or back of the shirt.

The village of Suring will celebrate its centennial in 2015 equipped with a fresh reminder of its past, thanks to a town of How native who’s writing a book, due out in this fall. “I just thought we needed to have the information for the future, for our kids and our grandkids,” author Rhoda Ebersole said. Her book is yet to be titled—and finished, but Ebersole said it will include not only historical data and photographs, but also personal memorie

Boaters visiting Kelly Lake over the holiday weekend were met by volunteers spreading the word about not spreading invasive species. Despite missing a day due to bad weather, seven volunteers of the annual Landing Blitz event connected with 75 boats and 131 people from Thursday through Saturday. “I think we did well,” said Rebecca Fabry, head of the Kelly Lake volunteers.

Annette Marie Blumreich passed away at Woodland Village-Oconto on July 4, 2014, at the age of 100 years, 8 months, and 20 days. Annette was born Oct. 15, 1913, to August and Louise (Braun) Beyer on a farm in the Manawa area. She married Ervin Blumreich on Aug. 11, 1934, and the couple moved to Gillett.

Delores Junco, 92, Oconto Falls, died Thursday evening, July 3, 2014, at the Jack and Engrid Meng residence in De Pere. She was born Dec. 31, 1921, in Murray, Iowa, to Charles and Pearl (Daughertee) Lee. As a little girl, Delores moved with her family to the town of Morgan. On May 26, 1941, she married Greg Junco in Crandon. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Milwaukee for a short time before moving back to the Oconto Falls area.

Genevieve Alice Hein, 83, Gillett, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at her home at Bass Lake surrounded by her family. She was born on Oct. 6, 1930, at South Branch, the daughter of the late Mathias and Genevieve (Pecore) Otradovec. On Sept. 13, 1952, Genevieve married Ruben Hein at St. Joseph of the Lake Catholic Church, South Branch. The couple made their home in West De Pere until moving to their Bass Lake home.

As the Oconto Falls Legion team dealt with an everyday grind for much of its season, the layoff from June 28 to July 8 was much needed. “I think, mentally and physically, the team could use some rest,” Oconto Falls coach Chris Hillberg said.
