UWGB professor to perform at Steinway concert

The Oconto Falls School District will present the Steinway Centerstage XII concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 9, in the Falls Area Performing Arts Center. This year’s featured students will be from the piano studios of Joan Johnson, Carol Ann Lemke and Grace Skaletski.

Hallam named Member of the Year
Sharon Hallam, Townsend, has been named the 2015 Wabeno Unit No. 44 American Legion Auxiliary Member of the Year by President Karen Prueter. Hallam’s award will be presented at the annual Legion awards dinner May 11 at the Legion clubhouse. Hallam is a longtime auxiliary member. She has served as Unit No. 44 secretary for five years.
Auditions set for Abrams summer show
Abrams Spotlight Productions Inc. will hold open auditions for “The Game’s Afoot or Holmes for the Holidays,” based on a book by Ken Ludwig, from 6-8 p.m. May 6 and 7 at The Byng Community Theater, 5852 Maple St., Abrams. It is December 1936, and Broadway star William Gillette, admired the world over for his leading role in the play “Sherlock Holmes,” has invited his fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry.
Bird City presents butterfly talk
Bird City Oconto will present “How to Create a Garden for Butterflies” at 6 p.m.Wednesday, May 13, at Oconto City Hall. Linda Warren and Adrian Konell will tell about butterfly ecology and gardening for native butterflies. Topics will include the life cycle of the butterfly and butterfly behaviors, such as puddling and basking.

Center seeks money for Spruce School preservation
To the editor: The Oconto Falls Area Heritage Center has been informed that the school district has received an offer to purchase Spruce School. The new owner plans to turn the school into a home.
Road construction start ‘not without difficulties’
People traveling the streets of Oconto Falls will see more orange over the next six months than originally planned. The contractor in charge of the state Highway 22 road construction project has taken extra steps to notify drivers of road closures along the route.

Proceedings from April 27 A sentencing hearing was held for Sheri M. Oldenburg, 50, Oconto Falls. On charges of possession of THC (second offense) July 16 in Oconto Falls, a sentence of one year jail time was imposed and stayed, and she was sentenced to two years of probation, with the condition of absolute sobriety. Charges of maintaining a drug trafficking place (second subsequent offense) were read in and dismissed.
