Legion teams prep for regionals

The Shawano American Legion baseball team will open the Class AA Region 2 tournament against regional host Waupaca at 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Shawano will then play on Friday against either Berlin or New London, which play their first-round game at 6 p.m. Thursday. Games will be played Friday at 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday will feature the championship game at 3 p.m., with a second game at 6 p.m. if needed.

New concession stand a hit at youth tourneys

Judge dismisses harassment claim against airport manager
A circuit court judge on Monday dismissed a Wescott property owner’s harassment claim against the manager of the Shawano City-County Airport. Robert Mueller filed a court petition July 9 seeking a temporary restraining order and/or injunction against Clarence Schampers over a stand of trees Mueller had planted on property outside of the airport fence. Schampers removed the trees in November.
Rural Health Initiative receives $60K gift
The Rural Health Initiative in Shawano County has received word that the estate of a Leopolis farmer will match up to $60,000 in contributions to the organization over the next year. The gift will come from the trust of Harold E. Pevonka, a Leopolis farmer who passed away in 2011.

At 5:50 a.m. July 21, a vehicle driven by a Lena woman swerved to avoid striking a deer on Midway Road north of County Road A in the town of Lena, entered a ditch and overturned several times. Her vehicle sustained severe damage.  At 10:55 a.m. July 20, a vehicle driven by a New Berlin man was backing up and struck the Stiles Junction Food and Fuel building on Duame Road in the town of Stiles, causing moderate damage to the building.
