A benefit for a Lena third-grader with leukemia will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Lena High School commons. Panthers blown out, remain winless The Oconto Falls High School football team lost 64-0 to Hortonville in a Bay Conference game Friday in Hortonville. Hortonville (5-0, 5-0 Bay) took a 29-0 lead in the first quarter and was up 36-0 by halftime. Tyler Kowalczyk had 120 yards on 21 carries for Oconto Falls (0-5, 0-4 Bay). Mike Friedman and Bailey Wolf had third-place finishes and the Oconto Falls High School boys cross-country team finished second Sept. 17 at the Bonduel Invitational. The Gillett Secondary School football team lost to visiting Wausaukee 36-28 in a Marinette and Oconto Conference game Friday in Gillett. A pair of second-quarter touchdown runs by Gillett’s Alex Zeitler, a sophomore quarterback, tied the game at 14-14 before halftime. “Zeitler once again played well, as the young signal caller put up another 100-yard performance, his fifth in as many games,” Gillett coach Rick Kamps said. At 5:28 a.m. Sept. 14, a car driven by a Suring man was traveling north on White Lake Road, town of Bagley. The vehicle veered onto the gravel shoulder, and the driver overcorrected and lost control. The car entered a ditch and struck a tree. The man was transported to a medical facility for injuries. His vehicle was extensively damaged. At 6:40 p.m. Sept.

Proceedings from Sept. 19 Julie S. Mann, 51, Oconto, entered a not guilty plea to, as a convicted felon, possessing a firearm. She was arrested Aug. 28 in Oconto. Her pretrial conference will be held Oct. 10, and a $2,500 cash bond continues. Brandon Degrand Foley-Fraser, 19, Oconto, was ordered to pay $883 in fines and court costs after he pleaded no contest to possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested May 11 in Oconto.

Suring officials are turning to a Madison-based company to improve an apartment complex in the village. The low-income tenants who live at Pioneer Villa apartments, 415 N. Mill St., have complained of a leaky roof, cockroach infestation and overall building deterioration. The building is owned by the Suring Non-Profit Housing Corporation and managed by Housing Management Services, of Oconto.
