Lately I am having a difficult time in finding entertainment. I used to be able to sit down and watch an evening of television and laugh, or cry, or whatever reaction, depending on if I was watching a comedy or a drama. Lately, very little really gets any kind of reaction. Perhaps one reason for that is all of the commercials. Every time I get interested in a show, there comes a commercial break.

Whenever I hear news that a farmer was injured (or worse) due to a farm accident, I’m always filled with dismay and then think, “Couldn’t they have avoided it somehow?” Listening intently, considering the details, I store them away in my mind as I try to learn from their experience. We had an incident on our farm not too long ago that left me shaken and thankful no one was killed or, in the very least, seriously hurt.

She and her husband, Dale, owned and operated a meat market and a mink farm. Then she was a homemaker, raising five children. Pat and Dale, who was a supervisor for Miron Construction, were married 56 years before his death.

Hawks top New London The Shawano Community High School volleyball team beat New London in four sets Thursday in Shawano. The Hawks (1-2 Bay) beat Bay Conference foe New London (1-1) 25-12, 22-25, 25-18, 25-12. Bella Gonzalez and Erika Dunnam led Shawano in kills with seven each. Dunnam had six blocks. Annelies Young had 16 assists, three service aces and nine digs.

The Bonduel High School girls golf team finished seventh at the Eastern Valley Conference meet Wednesday at Wander Springs Golf Course in Greenleaf. The Bears finished the season sixth in the conference. Taylor Diemel led Bonduel with a round of 107. Elizabeth Schaal shot a 118, Samantha Schaal 132 and Danielle Lautenbach 138. Fox Valley Lutheran took first at the meet with a score of 395 to cap its Eastern Valley Conference championship.
