Some common things, from aglet to zarf

How many times have you had to resort to calling something a whatjamacallit or a thingamajig because you didn’t know the name for some everyday item that we should know the word for, or were once told what it was but have since forgotten? Well, today, I’m going to give you some real (albeit unusual) names for some common things and/or conditions. Oconto Falls Police Department
An Oconto Falls man, 34, was arrested Sept. 10 on Green Bay Avenue for bail jumping and possession of a narcotic drug. A patio table valued at $30 was reported stolen Sept. 10 from a North Oakland Avenue residence. An Oconto Falls male, 28, and female, 27, were arrested for domestic-related battery Sept. 15 at a North Farm Road residence. A disorderly conduct citation was issued to an Oconto Falls High School male student, 16, on Sept. 16.

Oconto County Sheriff’s Department
At 1:15 p.m Sept. 20, a pickup truck driven by a man from Princeton was traveling south on Sullivan Spring Road in the town of Lakewood. He stopped his vehicle to allow an oncoming vehicle to pass on the narrow road. The right tire of his truck shifted on the soft shoulder, causing his vehicle to enter a ditch and turn on its side. CMH schedules flu shot clinics
Community Memorial Hospital will offer specially priced flu shots during its upcoming flu shot clinics. The shots will be offered at CMH Primary Care Clinics in Oconto County for $30. Walk-ins are accepted, but appointments are preferred. County settles case with golf course
Oconto and Marinette counties have agreed to purchase six lots adjacent to the landfill they share, after the property owners filed suit against the counties, claiming the smell and look of the landfill hurt their business and deterred sales of the lots to private parties. The MarOco Landfill, jointly owned by Oconto and Marinette counties, will use $250,000 in reserve funds to purchase the lots from Charles and Colleen DeSmidt, owners of DeSmidt

Oconto Falls’ golfers eighth in conference
The Oconto Falls High School girls golf team finished in eighth place at the Bay Conference tournament Tuesday at Wander Springs Golf Course in Greenleaf. The finish was not enough for Oconto Falls (16) to catch Luxemburg-Casco (28) in the final conference standings.

Panthers second at Showdown
It was a second-place finish for the Oconto Falls High School volleyball team Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Showdown volleyball tournament. The Panthers lost to Union Grove 2-1 in the championship match. Union Grove won the first game 25-18, Oconto Falls rallied to win the second game 25-23, but fell 15-13 in game 3. Oconto Falls went 6-1 at the two-day, 32-team tournament.

Prep Roundup
Panthers sweep West De Pere The Oconto Falls High School volleyball team swept West De Pere 3-0 in a Bay Conference match Sept. 24 in De Pere. The Panthers (3-0) beat West De Pere (1-2) 25-9, 25-18, 25-9. McKenna Larsen and Carly Lemke combined for 29 kills. Larsen had 18 assists and eight digs. Lemke also had three blocks. McKayla Johnson had three assists and 20 digs.

Panthers boys second at Mishicot
The Oconto Falls High School boys cross-country team finished second and Bailey Wolf took fourth Thursday at the 38th annual Jim Bremser Memorial Cross Country Invitational in Mishicot. The Panthers boys had a team score of 91 to finish second at the 24-team meet. Freedom (27) took first and Two Rivers (98) finished third. The OFHS girls team finished 12th with a team score of 299.
