Oconto Falls wins Peshtigo Invitational The Oconto Falls High School wrestling team won the 45th Peshtigo Wrestling Invitational Saturday in Peshtigo, scoring 264.5 points to top second-place Peshtigo (230). Evan Konitzer (106), Bryce Ash (120), Nathaniel Trepanier (132), Brett Ash (138), Sam Konitzer (145) and Dewey Krueger (152) all won their brackets for Oconto Falls. Morrissey taking long view at next level
Jake Morrissey has always been the ultimate competitor. In four years wrestling at Oconto Falls High School, Morrissey was nearly unstoppable, winning three state titles and capping his senior season by going 44-0. This year, he’s almost had to take a step back in order to take a step forward. Morrissey is a freshman at Purdue University and early on at practice, it was determined that he will redshirt this season.

Bonudel girls dominate Pacelli
The Bonduel High School girls basketball team beat Stevens Point Pacelli 72-27 in a Central Wisconsin Conference-8 game Friday in Stevens Point. “Last year Pacelli kind of took it to us, beat us once last year and then we won a close game,” Bonduel coach Missy Dowden said. “So the girls were fired up tonight.” Jennifer Dowden led Bonduel (8-1, 4-1 CWC-8) with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Courtney Schmidt and Deanna Zernicke each added 10 points.

Bears blown out at home
The Bonduel High School boys basketball team struggled in the first of a series of tests against the top of the Central Wisconsin Conference-8 Friday, losing 80-45 to Stevens Point Pacelli in Bonduel. Pacelli (9-2, 5-1 CWC-8) raced out to a 26-8 lead in the first quarter, led by senior Isaac Elliott’s, who scored 16 of his 20 points in the period.

'One day at a time'
A fundraiser is being held Saturday for a Bowler woman who is battling cancer and whose house was destroyed by fire in November. Sandie Martin was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma, lung cancer, in June. She was scheduled for lung resection surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., but because the cancer spread, she needed intense radiation and chemotherapy for six weeks beginning late in December.

Clintonville celebrates Winter Whirl next week
The 25th annual Tummy Warmer Chili and Chicken Soup Cook-Off will be among the highlights of this year’s Winter Whirl festival Jan. 24-26 in Clintonville. The cook-off will be held Jan. 25 at the Clintonville Park and Recreation Center, 55 W. 12th St. Categories include mild chili, hot chili and chicken soup. The judging will take place at 9 a.m.

Citations were expected, but the incident was still under investigation. No further information was available.
