OFHS girls take top spot at invitational

The Oconto Falls High School girls captured the 64th annual Oconto Falls Invitational on Thursday despite injuries to two key performers. Sophomore Bailey Wolf won two events as the Panthers overcame the harsh weather and stiff competition at Memorial Field, winning the title by 4.5 points over Hilbert. Payne named MVP of Marion Invitational
Drew Payne won three individual events Thursday as the Gresham-Bowler boys field and track team dominated the Marion Invitational. Payne, who was named the meet’s boys MVP, won the long jump, triple jump and 100-meter dash. He also was on the winning 4x100-meter relay team with Joe Serrano, Brandon Miller and Trace Miller. Austin Olsen and Cody Montez were double winners for Gresham-Bowler, which tallied 146 points.

Smurawa has five top-5 finishes at Pulaski
Shawano Community High School’s girls placed seventh and the boys eighth Thursday at the Pulaski Invitational. De Pere won the girls meet, while Seymour won the boys meet. SCHS senior Kia Smurawa finished second in the 100-meter dash, fourth in the 300-meter hurdles and fifth in the 100-meter hurdles.

Layoff affects Bears' performances
Days without practice and bad weather contributed to the sixth- and eighth-place finishes by the Bonduel High School boys and girls track teams, respectively, Thursday at the 64th annual Oconto Falls Invitational. “A lot of our kids were at a three-day SkillsUSA (career training competition) event, so they went a couple days without sleep and some of their performances showed,” coach Jim Watry said.

Shawano Community Middle School Shawano Community Middle School just had its last dance of the school year with hundreds of students showing up, and it was a fun event. The school is in the final term of the school year and still waiting for spring to arrive. Kressin to oversee integration of clinic, medical center
Julie Kressin has accepted the role of director of business integration for ThedaCare in Shawano. She will be responsible for integrating the separate ThedaCare Physicians-Shawano clinic with that of the new ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano, slated for completion in early 2015. Until this time, the clinic and medical center have operated separately.

Dr. Adrian Peter Gansen Jr.
Dr. Adrian Peter Gansen Jr., 89, of Shawano, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 11, 1924, in Shawano, he was the son of the late Adrian and Eva (Cattau) Gansen Sr. After graduating from Shawano High School, Adrian furthered his education by attending Marquette University School of Dentistry.

John W. Hawpetoss
John Wayne Hawpetoss, 59, of Neopit, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014, in Shawano. Born on March 7, 1955, in Keshena, he was the son of the late Samuel and Frances (Matchapatow) Hawpetoss Sr. John was an iron worker and member of the Local 380, Champagne, Ill. When not at work, John enjoyed hunting, fishing, traditional crafting and bead work, and loved being in the woods.
