VanderLinden lifts Bears over Brillion Hunter VanderLinden’s three-run home run in the top of the seventh lifted the Bonduel High School baseball team to a 6-5 win over Brillion in a nonconference game Friday in Brillion. VanderLinden finished 2 for 4 with four RBIs. He also picked up the win, pitching 3 1-3 innings, allowing three hits and one run, and striking out four.

Senior Ian Lewis had the meet’s best score, and the Shawano Community High School boys golf team beat Oconto Falls and Seymour, but lost to Marinette, in a meet Friday at Shawano Lake Golf Course in Shawano. Lewis carded a 37. Teammates Braden Mueller shot a 40, Garrett Schlise a 43 and Cole Huntington a 49. “The season is pretty young and it’s happening so fast,” Shawano coach Dean Kugler said.

Morgan Klitzke had three goals, Sarah Dickmann, Megan Klitzke and Louisa Keenan had two each, and the Shawano Community High School girls soccer team earned a 10-0 win over Iron Mountain for its first win of the season Friday. 4-H is 100 years old this year. Most of you know that 4-H is a program for youth, through the University of Wisconsin-Extension office. If you ever attended a county or state fair, you have seen exhibits that were made, or animals that were raised, by 4-H members. The program involves boys, girls, farm youth or youth who live in town.

Once a year, every dairy farmer submits to a state inspection. An inspector comes to the farm, and the barn and milkhouse get thoroughly examined and dissected. This is to ensure the farmer is taking care of business in a clean, orderly manner.

John Sumner and Flo Withers combined their talents to replace the regular windows in the sanctuary at United Methodist Church in Shawano with six stained glass windows. Some of the stained glass was purchased and some was donated from area churches and members of the congregation. Each window has a center medallion handcrafted by Terry Alexander, of Huntsville, Ala., and paid for by sponsors.

The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department on Friday hosted its second annual Law Enforcement Observance at the Shawano County Courthouse, paying tribute to those who have fallen in the line of duty. “They have served and given their all to keep us safe and secure,” Sheriff Randy Wright said.
