City officials Wednesday approved the purchase of a new K-9 for the Shawano Police Department to replace a dog that has been increasingly sidelined by behavioral problems. Alfred Edward Hoffman, 88, of Green Bay, and formerly of the town of Spruce, passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at Grancare Nursing Center, Green Bay. The son of the late Charles and Fannie (Soukup) Hoffman was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Oconto County. Roger W. Carriveau, 78, Stiles, died Wednesday evening, Aug. 6, 2014, at Sharpe Care following an illness with cancer. Kathleen Beth (White) Olson passed away Aug. 8, 2014. Family is the thing that Kathy lived for. Kathleen White was born June 16, 1932, to Herbert Edgar and Laura Susan (Snyder) White in Orofino, Idaho. She was raised in Weippe, Idaho, and lost her dear mother at a young age. When Kathy was 16 years old, she met the love of her life, John Andrew Olson, of Gillett. Mr. Olson had been recruited to help deliver a saw mill to Weippe, Idaho.

Richard H. “Dick” Jenquine, 66, Cleveland, passed away unexpectedly on Friday evening, Aug. 1, 2014, at his home. He was born on July 15, 1948, in Marinette to Harold and Esther (VandenBush) Jenquine. Dick worked for the Kohler Company for 41 years until his retirement in 2013. He took great pride in the appearance of his property, always taking the extra time to keep it looking good.

The Nicolet Oconto Retired Teachers Association in July honored Carol Burns for 15-plus years of membership in Wisconsin Retired Educators Association and NORTA. Burns was born and raised on a farm in the Berlin area. She went to a one-room country school until eighth grade and graduated from Berlin High School.

Tracey Rae Vandeveer, 52, Oconto Falls, died on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, of complications to MS. She was born in Green Bay on Oct. 17, 1961, to the late Carol (Meidl) Vandeveer and Ronald Meidl. During her childhood, Vandeveer lived in De Pere. She resided in Ashwaubenon for much of her life before moving to Oconto Falls in 2010. Prior to her disability retirement, Tracey worked in customer service for Georgia-Pacific.
