Referendum passage puts plans in motion

The Oconto Falls School District will act as its own construction manager for $2.2 million in outdoor projects, including a football stadium and track at Oconto Falls High School and renovations at the entrance to Abrams Elementary School. The School Board also chose its point person for the projects, Athletic Director Jerry Moynihan, releasing him from his 50 percent high school math teaching contract and opting to hire a full-time math teacher

Residents approve $9M levy
A dozen residents on Monday approved an $8.9 million tax levy for the Oconto Falls School District, an increase of 4.6 percent over last year’s levy of $8.5 million. The levy includes referendum funding approved by voters earlier this month, estimated at $24 per $100,000 of equalized value. Mom helped me to become who I am
When I was teaching—and boy, that seems like a long time ago—I sometimes used a poem (I think it was a song, actually) called ‘The Housewife’s Lament,” which contained a stanza that went like this: “With grease and with grime/From corner to centre,/Forever at war/And forever alert./No rest for a day/Lest the enemy enter,/I spend my whole life/In the struggle with dirt.” The “enemy” in the poem is dirt.

Panthers working to be more competitive
The players who were on the Oconto Falls High School football team a season ago got a taste of what it’s like to be in some games with a chance to win. Despite going 0-8, the Panthers gained confidence in a couple of close losses. “We were able to compete in a couple of games last year,” Oconto Falls coach Jeff Trochil said.

Riding the racing roller coaster
Racing, like any other sport, is full of highs and lows. The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat is evident every Saturday night at the Shawano Speedway. As the season nears its end, the highs and lows become much greater as the intensity ramps up in August. Last week at the historic half mile was a prime example.
