Rural school administrators claim Gov. Scott Walker’s proposed 2015-17 biennial budget if passed as is could severely cripple their ability to educate children. Walker’s two-year spending plan essentially calls for holding public schools’ funding flat.

Retired broadcaster Hattie Kauffman, a four-time Emmy winner, shared a message of hope with more than 100 people Tuesday at the Menominee Casino Resort. St. James Lutheran School The sixth-grade earth science class is completing its study of volcanoes. During the unit the students had to build a model volcano that could erupt. There were many concoctions and mixtures thought up to demonstrate a volcanic eruption, including fire extinguishers, “elephant toothpaste,” Mentos and Coke, and baking soda with vinegar. One student built a wide and gently sloping shield volcano like the ones in Hawaii.

Proceedings from March 3 A sentencing hearing was held for Lyle W. Hennricks, 47, West Allis, on charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (fourth offense in five years) May 2 in Little Suamico. He was sentenced to two years incarceration and three years extended supervision.

A K-9 search of Oconto Falls High School on Feb. 24 resulted in one alert involving a vehicle in the student parking lot.

An Abrams woman has been charged with first degree reckless homicide for her involvement in the heroin overdose of her boyfriend last summer, the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Tiffany A. Gerrits, 22, was arrested March 4 for allegedly supplying heroin to her boyfriend, Donald J. Hudson, who was 21 when he died of a drug overdose on Aug. 29, 2014.
