The Suring Area Historical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. June 17 at the Suring Market and Agriculture Center on Main Street in Suring. The speaker will be Mary Smith, giving information on the center, and visitors can attend and enjoy an onsite learning experience. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. A June 2 traffic stop led to the arrest of a man and recovery of drugs, guns and other contraband, according to the Menominee Tribal Police Department. At about 11:15 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle traveling on state Highway 47 near Camp One Road on the Menominee Indian Reservation. During the stop, officers observed suspicious behavior from the male driver that raised concerns.

Aaron Renel, the man who caught folks’ attention by driving a military vehicle in the wrong direction on state Highway 29 three years ago, will not be serving any more jail time. A conditional release plan for Renel was approved June 4 by Shawano-Menominee County Circuit Court Judge William Kussel Jr. Renel will be able to remain in his home in Cecil and receive treatment from Lutheran Social Services.
