Chargers, Bears each win twice in weekend softball matchups

Saturday, May 9

Wittenberg-Birnamwood 4, Auburndale 3

Rory Salvesen hit a triple, while Zoey Thorson, Madison Fisher and Kennedy Benbo each had double as the 20th-ranked Chargers defeated the 21st-ranked Eagles 4-3.

The game-winning run came in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Kendall Lex pitched the full game. She gave up 3 runs on 9 hits and walked 2.

Gresham/Bowler, Oconto Falls girls take second at track meets

Seymour Invitational

Bonduel’s girls earned 73 points and placed fourth among 11 teams, while the boys picked up 63 points and placed sixth among 13 teams.

Gillett’s boys had 13 points and tied for 10th, while the girls had nine points and placed 10th.

Gristeau-Blanche earns medalist honor

Saturday, May 9

Sheboygan Town & Country Invitational

Shawano’s Duane Gristeau-Blanche scored 86 and tied for medalist honors at Sheboygan Town and Country Golf Course in Sheboygan.

The Hawks as a team scored 409 and tied for sixth place among seven teams.

Also placing for Shawano were Levi Anobong at 102, T.J. Smith at 106 and Caiden Cappaert at 115.

Nischke scores Pulaski’s only goal

De Pere 13, Pulaski 1 (girls)

Ashley Nischke scored unassisted for Pulaski’s only goal in a 13-1 loss to De Pere.

The Red Raiders used two goaltenders. Marley Sheehan made 11 saves against 13 shots on goal, and Macie Senter had four saves against 14 shots on goal.

Golden progressing in Packers system

Much is always expected from a team’s first-round draft pick. Such was the case in 2025 when the Green Bay Packers selected Matthew Golden in the 23rd overall spot.

But, has he materialized into what the fans — or the coaching staff — expected?

Bears softball team shuts down Warhawks

Bonduel 15, Weyauwega-Fremont 0

The Bears crossed home plate 15 times in the first inning and defeated the Warhawks 15-0 after just 2 1/2 innings of play.

Emery Thompson hit 2-for-2 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored. Haley Conradt, Jayla Reinke and Marlie Hartmann each had two RBIs.

Hartmann had two hits, and Reinke had a double.

Bears win 1-0 in eighth inning

Thursday, May 7

Bonduel 1, Weyauwega-Fremont 0

Joe Felhofer’s hit scored Carter Beilfuss in the bottom of the eighth inning as Bonduel topped Weyauwega-Fremont 1-0.

Aiden Hillsberg was 3-for-3 for the Bears.

Beilfuss came on in relief of Brooks Hartlaben and pitched the last out for Bonduel, getting the win in the process. Hartlaben walked four and fanned 13 in his 7 2/3 innings.
