Be aware of added parking fees Fair visitors who have purchased wristbands for entry for the six-day event should be aware they only cover parking on the fairgrounds. Other parking lots adjacent to the fairgrounds have separate fees ranging from $3 to $5 for fairgoers. God told him to juggle
The Shawano County Fair’s newest entertainment attraction, the Juggler with the Yellow Shoes, is already grabbing attention after his first day of performances Friday. Menasha resident Dan Kirk has been a full-time juggler for 20 years and started dabbling in the craft when he was 16.

Equestrian events kick off
Friday was check-in day for what may be the best-kept secret of the Shawano County Fair, though it’s a secret that participants would like more people to know about. Three days of equestrian activities begin Saturday at the Crawford Center horse arena, starting with Open Class competitions. “It’s always been part of the fair and nobody knows there’s horses here,” said John Arens of the Shawano County Agricultural Society Board of Directors. Gresham/Bowler overwhelms Amherst The Bowler/Gresham high school boys soccer team had eight goals to get its first win of the season Thursday against Amherst in Gresham. With Gresham/Bowler (1-2) leading 2-0 to begin the second half, Drew Payne scored four straight goals, the first on an assist by Trace Miller and the rest unassisted. Scott Cerveny added two goals and an assist. Walker Miller and Austin Olson had goals in the first half.

Dobratz helps Bears to last-minute win
Winning in dramatic fashion, the Bonduel High School football team improved to 2-0 with a 14-9 win over Peshtigo in a nonconference game Thursday in Peshtigo. The Bears (2-0, 0-0 Central Wisconsin Conference-8) trailed 9-7 after giving up a safety on a high snap out of the back of the end zone on a punt in the fourth quarter. The game turned when, with about three minutes remaining, Bonduel stopped Peshtigo near the 50-yard line on fourth down. W

'Burden' on puppets' shoulders in musical
High school in a small town is not always easy, and moving to a bigger city can be even more difficult. Robby McGhee, a 2003 Shawano Community High School graduate formerly known as Robby Schuettpelz, has taken those feelings and turned them into a puppet musical called “The Burden of Being,” currently being performed in The Alchemist Theatre in Milwaukee.

Cake funds will go to cancer research Kayla Clark, a 13-year-old member of the Belle Plaine 4-H Club, made a pink breast cancer ribbon for her entry in the cake decorating project at the fair. She plans to donate half of what she makes at the cake sale Friday to breast cancer research.
