Charles Harold Malueg Jr., 65, formerly of Suring, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013. Charles was born April 19, 1948, to the late Charles Sr. and Rose (Otradovec) Malueg. He farmed with his father in the town of How and took great pride in his occupation.

Harold L. “Hal” Koenig, 87, of Cecil, passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 16, 2013, at ManorCare of Shawano. Funeral services for Harold Koenig will be held on Monday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church of Shawano. Pastor Ted Andrada will officiate. Interment, with full military honors, will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery of Shawano. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m.

Wildcats 2-0 in nonconference play The Gresham High School volleyball team beat Valley Christian and Oneida in nonconference action Tuesday in Gresham. Gresham beat Valley Christian 25-14, 25-18 and then beat Oneida 25-15, 25-8. Against Valley Christian, River Otradovec had 12 points, Brittny Andrews had five kills and Taylor Hoffman had six assists. The Shawano Community High School volleyball team has the ninth seed and will travel to No. 8 Seymour next Tuesday to begin the WIAA Division 2 regionals. The winner will move on to face No. 1 Oconto Falls in the regional semifinal Thursday. Also in the Division 2 regional, No. 13 Clintonville will travel to face No. 4 Wrightstown. In the Division 3 tournament, Bonduel earned a No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 Crandon. The winner will face No.

The Shawano Community High School soccer team’s season came to an end Thursday with a 2-1 loss to Marshfield in the WIAA Division 2 Regional final at Marshfield High School. No.

Winning its second conference title in 36 years, the Bonduel High School boys cross-country team dominated the Central Wisconsin Conference championships Thursday in Wittenberg. The Bears had four runners in the top 10. Sam Falck took the top spot, finishing first with a time of 17 minutes, 31 seconds.

The Shawano Community High School cross-country runners went into Thursday’s Bay Conference meet knowing the course just a little bit better than everyone else. They also knew their coach was expecting them to improve on their times from September’s home invitational. “It’s our home course. We ran out here four or five weeks ago,” coach Steve Stomberg said.

Green Bay Packers Next man up The Green Bay Packers have seen this script before. The injuries are piling up. The game-day roster is starting to fill with rookies and free agents. The Packers don’t skip a beat. At least that is what happened in 2010 when the team overcame injuries to win the Super Bowl. The injury bug has hit again, and again the Packers will need the next man up philosophy.
