Anguish flooded my heart as my brain registered what I saw. There, on the road just past our driveway, lay my sweet kitty, Fred. Lifeless.

My husband and I were on our four-wheeler, and immediately I felt the need to get Fred off the road.

“Let’s go back and get a guinea sack,” my husband suggested quietly.

Father’s Day was really special this year because our daughter treated us to a weekend in Madison. Isn’t it wonderful when your kids do things like that? We wouldn’t have missed this for the world, though getting there and back was an adventure.

As spring bird migration comes to an end, I feel a hint of melancholy. The season’s excitement, anticipation and daily discoveries give way to quieter days. Still, this year’s migration left me with a set of experiences and memories that will linger long after the last migrants have passed through to their northern breeding grounds.
