Shawano tennis season ends with forfeit at state

Shawano senior Enrique Omella Valls’ trip to the state tennis meet was short lived, as he lost by forfeit 2-0, 2-0 to Aquinas’ Teagan Scott on June 4.

Omella Valls went into Division 2 tournament play with a 16-4 mark. Scott, also a senior, was 21-4.

UTV riders now required to wear seat belts

Riders of ATVs and UTVs are reminded that several law changes went into effect June 1.

Updates include:

• Operators and passengers are all required to wear a seat belt in a UTV.

• Intentionally causing damage with an ATV or UTV can cost you more than a fine — up to three times the cost to repair the damage.

M&O all-conference award winners announced

Lena High School golfer Cooper Demmith was named the golfer of the year for the Marinette & Oconto Conference.

Joining him on the all-conference first team was Gillett High School’s Brady Holla.

Named to the second team were Lena’s Tanner Behnke, and Parker Jenerou, Bradyn Kiedrowski and Chase Rosenlund, all from Gillett.

Pulaski, Bonduel baseball teams win

Braun Wotruba hit 2-for-3 in the Red Raiders’ regional second-round playoff win.

He was also the winning pitcher. He gave up one run on three hits, walked two and struck out seven.

Chargers softball team ends season for Falcons

Wittenberg-Birnamwood 12, Amherst 2

The Chargers had bookends of four runs in the first and sixth inning, with another four in between to end Amherst’s season. Amherst also committed nine errors.

Kendall Lex was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Chloe Hanson was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored. Brie Ladika was 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Pulaski soccer team wins playoff game

Tuesday, June 2

Pulaski 2, West De Pere 0

Pulaski opened WIAA regional action with a semifinal win over West De Pere.

Ruth Krause scored first, assisted by Lydia Stangler. The second goal was scored by Leah Grygiel, assisted by Kara Barber.

Goalkeeper Tatum Wentland had no saves in the shutout win.

The Red Raiders were seeded third, and the Phantoms were 14th.

Golf season ends for area athletes

Tuesday, June 2

Seymour Sectional

Menominee Nation/Gresham scored 345 and placed fifth at the Division 2 team sectionals at Crystal Springs Golf Course.

Oconto Falls golfers scored 349 and placed seventh.

Scoring for the Eagles were Allex Mahl with 82, Elliott Penass with 84, Gabe Boivin with 89 and Anikohsaeh Corn with 90.
