Week was certainly one to remember

This past week has been so filled with comings and goings, that I didn’t know what to write about this week. After hearing about an accident due to the fact that someone was passing when they shouldn’t have, and the person driving the oncoming car was killed. I couldn’t help but think about all of the times I have had to avoid vehicles in similar situations. People seem to pass whenever they want, whether it is in a no passing zone or not. I know I am not the fastest driver on the road, but I am not the slowest either. As a rule I go about five miles over the speed limit, but it is rare that people don’t pass my anyway. I figure I am already going over the speed limit, and it makes me wonder, “how fast do people really have to go?” Has this become such a me first society that no one really cares who they hurt? I am also concerned about butterflies, it seems I don’t see them anymore. Where did they go? I recently heard that the Monarch didn’t have the right food supply due to the weather, so they didn’t show this year. I must admit I have seen a glimpse of a tangerine butterfly a time or two, but they never stay put long enough for me to take their picture. There are times that I wish I was a professional sports player. I am not after glory or even big bucks, but when they are hurting, it seems the teams see they get all the medical care needed to get them back into the game as soon as possible. So if I were a professional player, I am sure these aches and pains would be treated, even if I had to languish on injured reserve for a bit. Then there was the whirlwind trip I took to visit my friend Delores in Ironwood, Mich. It was a trip we had planned for about six years, and it finally came to fruition. That night we went to Hurley for the best pizza I ever tasted. They boast that their pizza is world famous, and after eating it, I would agree. Then, one day was spent bumming around in Bayfield, shopping, eating, visiting the sweet shop, and enjoying the view of the beautiful Lake Superior. While we were sitting and relaxing in a gazebo, a gentleman was there. He lived there all his life, and he regaled us with nonstop stories. On the way to Ironwood, I stopped at the awesome Bond Falls, the sounds of the falls, the power of the water, all added to the wonder of the moment. I had forgotten how many tree roots and rocks were in the pathway, so walked it very carefully, as I didn’t want to be the one to fall. Upcoming this weekend is the Lumberjack Days in Tigerton. Since Tigerton was founded by the loggers and later a sawmill, it seems fitting to have Lumberjack Days. My church has the food stand this year, so I’ll take a shift or two slinging hamburgers. However, none of that seemed important tonight, Aug. 21, when the lights went out in the storm. The strangest part was all my neighbors had power, and even the street lights were lit. My son came over and we checked the circuit breakers, all was well. Next I called the electric company, and they said they were aware. Finally, three hours later, the lights are back on, and all is right again.
