Trail run planned for Machickanee in October

Tedcor has announced the Golden Pines Trail Run at Machickanee, a brand new event designed to draw visitors and highlight one of the region’s most scenic natural treasures.

This inaugural event, spearheaded by Allie Thut-Connelly, owner of Golden Made Events, is set for Oct. 10 and promises an unforgettable evening adventure through the Machickanee Hiking and Ski Trails.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome the Golden Pines Trail Run, an event that not only promotes active outdoor recreation but also invites visitors to discover the breathtaking beauty of the Machickanee Forest in a unique way,” said Kelly Schwartz, Tedcor director of marketing and communications. “This new event is a perfect fit for Oconto County, leveraging our exceptional natural assets to create memorable experiences for families and adventurers alike. It’s an excellent opportunity to put Machickanee on the map for fall tourism.”

Participants can choose between a 7K or 11K canicross run/hike (with their leashed dog) or a traditional trail run/hike. The evening adventure begins between 4:45-5 p.m., allowing participants to experience the Machickanee trails as daylight fades, surrounded by vibrant golden fall colors and the essential glow of their headlamps. The course offers a fun and engaging challenge, winding through diverse terrain, streams, hills, and curves. These very trails are meticulously maintained by volunteers of the Machickanee Cross Country Ski Club.

“I’m incredibly excited to bring the Golden Pines Trail Run to Oconto County and showcase the trails at the Machickanee Forest that I truly enjoy so much,” said Thut-Connelly. “This event is designed for outdoor advocates to hit the trails during the prime fall color season at golden hour for a fully immersive experience. for everyone to offer an opportunity to a unique blend of challenging terrain and natural beauty. I’m thrilled to partner with Tedcor to showcase this hidden gem and contribute to the volunteer efforts that keeps these trails beautiful.”

Registration includes a timed event, post-race food and local beer, and an exclusive event T-shirt. Packet pick-up will take place from 3:30-5 p.m. at the event location.

A portion of the proceeds from the Golden Pines Trail Run will directly support the invaluable volunteer work of the ski club, which has maintained this area since 1978.
