St. James Lutheran School is busy getting its playground prepped for new playground equipment for this fall. The funding for the playground came from a unique fundraiser when the principal sat on the school roof for three days. The goal was to raise $32,000; in the end, $50,000 was given by friends, families and supporters. In addition to the reverse roof sit, members of the playground subcommittee wrote two grants. St.

The July 21 meeting was held in the Elsie Engel room at the Shawano Public Library. Members attending were Svitlana Podgorna, Lee Pulaski, Manuel Moraleda, Twilla Beyer, John Mutter Jr., Tom Thorstenson, Nick Wudtke, Trudy Bosman, Wendy Goerl, and Barb King. President Tom Thorstenson called the meeting to order. The minutes and treasurer’s report were approved. We lost a good friend this month. Dennis Vickers was a kind person.

The pattern for Shawano County’s 392nd barn quilt is a combination of the Norwegian and American flags, and it is called “Heritage.” The quilt was sponsored by Laurie Matson and is on display on her barn at W17602 County Road M, Tigerton. “Our Norwegian ancestors came to the United States in the late 1800s,” Matson said.

Abrams Spotlight Productions Inc. will hold auditions Aug. 23-24 for its winter musical “White Christmas,” to be presented Dec. 1-4 and Dec. 8-11. Individuals can audition from 6-8:30 p.m. either day at the Nancy Byng Community Theater, 5852 Maple St., Abrams. Individuals who audition should come prepared to sing 24-32 bars of a song, preferably from a musical. They can sing a cappella or play music on their phone.
