Panthers boys lose to Shawano

Riley Gruetzmacher’s double-double wasn’t enough to hold off Bay Conference-leading Shawano Thursday in Oconto Falls. The Panthers (1-6, 1-3 Bay) lost 42-33. Gruetzmacher scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds for Oconto Falls. Michael Fifield added nine points. Eleven Shawano (7-2, 5-0 Bay) players scored in the game, led by Travis Geenen and Jack Lacy, who each had six points. The Panthers made 41 percent of their shots from the field, while Shawano made 35 percent. The Hawks, though, had a slight edge on defense, forcing 23 turnovers while committing 19. While both teams struggled to score throughout the game, Shawano took a 19-13 lead by halftime. A 15-9 advantage in the third quarter built the lead to 34-22. The Panthers rallied to cut the lead in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough catch Shawano.
