Arts and Crafts Fair celebrates 45 years

The Shawano County Arts and Crafts Fair will celebrate its 45th anniversary Sunday at Mielke Park, and art fair director Cheryl Folkerts said the event has remained loyal to its popular format. “I don’t think it has changed much in 45 years,” Folkerts said.

Tigerton couple facing felony drug charges
A Tigerton couple is facing felony drug charges after a search warrant was executed at their residence Friday. Timothy J. Stenson, 56, and Laura J. Budreau, 47, are each charged with felony counts of manufacture and delivery of marijuana and maintaining a drug trafficking place.
Milton R. Nordwig
Milton Roy Nordwig, 93, of Leopolis, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church-Hermansfort with the Rev. Roland Golz and Vicar Steve Conradt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
Donald J. Kern
Donald J. Kern, 79, town of Elderon, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born on Oct. 27, 1933, in DeWitt County, Ill., the son of the late Theodore and Martha (Nettles) Kern. Donald was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. On June 30, 1956, Donald was united in marriage to Laura Hart in Sidney, Mont. She preceded him in death on May 5, 1985.
Area gardeners Share the Bounty
Shawano County gardeners can once again show their generosity as the hunger prevention program Share the Bounty gets into full swing this growing season. According to program founder Winnie Preston, it’s a win-win for everyone involved. “Most people who garden know that you usually have more (produce) than you can use, and there is nothing worse than seeing it go to waste,” Preston said.
Miles of Art gets state grant
The Shawano Country Tourism Council hopes to attract new visitors to the area with the help of a $8,000 Joint Effort Marketing (JEM) grant. The funding will go toward the Shawano Country Miles of Art, which showcases art and culture in the Shawano area. Last year, the economic impact of the event was estimated at $185,224 from traveler spending at area hotels, restaurants and stores. The third annual Miles of Art will be held Oct.
