Justin Allen Jeske, 27, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, in Appleton. Justin was born on Aug. 3, 1986, and was baptized on Aug. 23, 1986. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel and was a graduate of Bonduel High School, Class of 2005. Justin was employed at Charter Communications in Clintonville.

In 1912 the first University of Wisconsin-Extension agent was hired in Shawano County. Since then the Extension has seen growth in programs to help county residents. “We extend the resources of the University of Wisconsin to people in the county,” said Joe Stellato, department head and 4-H youth development educator. This year the UW-Extension will be highlighted with a display in the Farmer’s Exhibition building at the Shawano County Fair.

The Shawano County Fair is in full swing. Cream puffs are being eaten, as well as corn dogs and all of the other fair food. As a child I most remember the cotton candy and candy apples. Both were messy to eat, but I loved the cotton candy the best. By now all of the projects that were entered have been judged. I hope you take time to peruse each entry, whether made by a youth or entered in open class.

Jim Fuhrman has been volunteering for 4-H for many years. Fuhrman was born and raised in Tigerton. After graduating from Tigerton High School, he began farming with his father. Now he is farming with his son in the town of Fairbanks on 330 acres and with 80 cows. Fuhrman and his wife of 29 years, Diane, have three children and two grandchildren. The Fuhrman children were members of the Tiger Tribe 4-H Club. Both Jim and Diane volunteer at St.

The other day we needed to corral a heifer. For some reason she could not get bred. She was getting bigger, eating and not producing, and my freezer was getting empty. It was a perfect combination – a need, and a means to fulfill that need. Rounding animals up where they need to go when they need to get there can be challenging and demands patience and determination.

Be aware of added parking fees Fair visitors who have purchased wristbands for entry for the six-day event should be aware they only cover parking on the fairgrounds. The Shawano County Fair’s newest entertainment attraction, the Juggler with the Yellow Shoes, is already grabbing attention after his first day of performances Friday. Menasha resident Dan Kirk has been a full-time juggler for 20 years and started dabbling in the craft when he was 16.

Friday was check-in day for what may be the best-kept secret of the Shawano County Fair, though it’s a secret that participants would like more people to know about.
