Alice I. (Kruse) Kabacinski, 79, Green Bay, died peacefully at home Monday, Sept. 9, 2013. She was born Sept. 26, 1933, in Shawano to Grover and Florence (Schultz) Kruse. Alice was a lifelong member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She graduated from Green Bay West High School.

Shawano Police Department Sept. 9 Police logged 25 incidents, including the following: Suspicious — Police responding to a suspicious person complaint in the 100 block of South Washington Street located two individuals believed to have been involved in an assault in the city two days earlier. A charge of aggravated battery was referred against a 25-year-old Keshena man and a charge of battery was referred against a 24-year-old Shawano man.

The Shawano County Administrative Committee is looking at eliminating a requirement that at least $500,000 in sales tax funds be held in reserve for capital improvement projects. A change in a school bus drop-off location could alleviate the largest safety concern officials had about the loss of a crossing guard at Main and Center streets, which was eliminated from the city’s budget this year. Meanwhile, a citizens’ group is reportedly working to find and fund a crossing guard of its own. The crossing guard was initially cut completely from the city budget last November.

A city police officer’s quick response is being credited with saving the life of a Shawano man who was foundering in the water south of the dam at Sturgeon Park on Saturday. Police got a call around 1:15 p.m. about a man in the water calling for help, according to the police report. Several people on the shore reported the man was still in the water when officer Kurt Kitzman arrived.
