CESA 8 will present a series of free training and learning opportunities for parents this fall. The workshops take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the CESA 8 office, 233 W. Park St., Gillett. A light dinner will be provided. The first session, on Sept. 12, is titled “We’re Not Broken: Empowering Labeled Students,” presented by nationally known speaker Jonathon Mooney. Mooney is a dyslexic who did not learn to read until he was 12.

Community Memorial Hospital will host a dinner seminar for seniors titled “Getting You Back on Your Feet” at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19. Prevea Health podiatrist Dr. Mark Kachan will talk about how to get relief from common foot and ankle conditions and how to prevent future problems.

Nearly every girl dreams of having her moment in the spotlight. For Kaitie Spaude, that moment happened at last month’s National American Miss Wisconsin pageant. Spaude, a senior at Oconto Falls High School, won the 2013 Miss Wisconsin Teen Spokesmodel title at the annual pageant, held Aug. 23-25 in Wisconsin Dells.

Aircraft and history enthusiasts will flock to Oconto on Saturday for the fifth annual fly-in sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Warbirds of America Badger Squadron Six. The event will take place at the headquarters of the Badger Squadron, the Oconto-J.

A tree grown in Oconto County was selected as a state winner in a contest organized by the Wisconsin Christmas Tree Producers Association at its summer convention. Dave and Mary Vander Velden of Whispering Pines Tree Farm, Oconto, and Tom Happersett of Happ’s Homegrown Christmas Trees, Neshkoro, were the co-champions in the annual event.

Several thefts of lawn ornaments were reported from residents on West Highland Drive from Aug. 24-31. Missing items were bird feeders, a bird bath and solar lights valued at $472; a bird feeder and solar lights valued at $100; two concrete frogs valued at $420; and solar lights from two residences. Garbage and recycling bins were overturned Aug. 25 at the East Side Beach, 627 N.

At 6:39 p.m. Sept. 7, a car driven by an Oconto woman was traveling on state Highway 22 west of County Road J in the town of Oconto. She drove unto the gravel shoulder, lost control, entered a ditch and overturned. She was not injured but was cited for inattentive driving. At 12:20 a.m. Sept.

Proceedings from Sept. 5 An arraignment is Oct. 10 for Gary G. Rosek, 58, Suamico, who is charged with driving while intoxicated and driving with blood alcohol content greater than the legal limit, each fifth or sixth offense.
