Gillett plans to build new salt shed

The city of Gillett will construct a 24- by 24-foot shed to store salt for the winter. The City Council on Thursday approved $44,000 in bids for the project, funded with a five-year loan from Peshtigo National Bank. The city will make monthly payments of $805, with an interest rate of 2.75 percent. Cats stay perfect with 46-6 win
The Bowler/Gresham high school football team continued to roll a path of destruction through the Great 8 Conference with a 46-6 win Saturday over Abundant Life Christian. Abundant Life’s only score came on the Cats’ first drive, when a pitch from quarterback Thomas Kazik was grabbed by a Challengers player and run in for a score. After that, the Bowler/Gresham defense did its job, holding Abundant Life (1-2) scoreless the rest of the way.

MIHS volleyball team opens conference play with win

August F. Janicek
August Frank Janicek, 89, of Clintonville, passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at a local nursing home. Born on Nov. 5, 1923, in Czechoslovakia, he was the son of the late Thomas and Frances (Slamka) Janicek. At the age of 15, August and his family moved to the Milwaukee area.
