Hawks 6th at Trocat Scramble

Cody Urban and Mike Meisner took home championships for the Shawano Community High School wrestling team at the Trocat Scramble wrestling tournament Saturday at Green Bay West High School. Shawano took sixth in the tournament, scoring 152 points. Whitnall won with a score of 259.5, followed by Peshtigo (240.5), Mishicot (206) and West De Pere (187). Waupun (171.5) took fifth. Urban, who was participating in his first action since missing more than a month with an injury, pinned Peshtigo’s Shane Marquardt in 5 minutes, 14 seconds in the 160-pound championship match. “We weren’t sure how he was going handle competition,” Shawano coach Adam Bieber said. “He wrestled strong all day.” Urban pinned Green Bay West/Southwest’s Colton Lindley in 3:42 to reach the championship match. Meisner pinned Green Bay West/Southwest’s Jordan Machuca 1:40 into their 182-pound championship match. Meisner pinned Waupun’s Reyes Ramos in 36 seconds in the semifinal round. Both Urban and Meisner were ranked third in their bracket going into the tournament. “They exceeded expectations for sure,” Bieber said. “They both wrestled real well.” Dalton Parson (120) lost his championship match against West De Pere’s Keenan Graef by a 12-4 major decision. He beat Appleton East’s Nathan Fens 6-3 in the semifinal. “Another solid day for Dalton Parson,”Bieber said. “He’s putting together a decent year.” Jayce Hinkfuss (220) lost to Green Bay West/Southwest’s Steven Fishler 12-3 the fifth round of his bracket to take third. Curtis Waupoose (152) took fifth, beating Whitnall’s Peter Moore by pin in 1:52 in the fifth-place match. Shawn Bell (126) also took fifth, winning his fifth-place match against Appleton East’s Kyle Immel by pin in 2:16. Austin Oreskovic (120) took sixth. Damon Braatz (285), Ben Glime (170), Christian VanOss (145) and Jacob Sackett (152) all took eighth at the tournament. “Overall, since having the last two weeks off since the Holiday Classic, we had a really good week of practice,” Bieber said. “We really wrestled well last Saturday.”
