Shawano County area Girl Scouts will begin selling America’s favorite cookies again this week.
The annual Girl Scout Cookie Program begins Friday throughout northern Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and continues through March 23.
The program helps girls develop business skills such as decision making, goal setting, money management and business ethics, as well as their people skills. All proceeds from the program stay local; the girls receive a percentage based on how much they’ve sold, and the remainder goes to the local Girl Scout Council, which helps fund Girl Scout programming and services. Girl Scout programming includes camp, travel opportunities, local events and more.
The cost of Girl Scout cookies remains at $3.50 per box. This year’s offerings include the traditional favorites plus a new cookie, Cranberry Citrus Crisps. This cookie features tangy bits of real cranberry and a citrus flavor as well as 9 grams of whole grain per serving.
Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes, which includes the Shawano area, serves nearly 20,000 girls in 58 counties.
