The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Shawano-Menominee will launch fundraising efforts for 2014 with a rally at 5 p.m. Wednesday at CRI, 117 E. Green Bay St., Shawano.
The committee encourages area residents — both volunteers and participants — to attend the kick-off to learn how they can become part of the world’s largest movement to end cancer. Details of the March 22 event, which will be held at Shawano Community High School, 220 County Road B, will be discussed. Participants also will learn about being a team captain.
Relay For Life mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and provide participants with an opportunity to fight back against the disease.
Relay For Life began in 1985 with one man who walked and ran around a track for 24 hours and raised $27,000 for the American Cancer Society. This year, Relay For Life will take place in nearly 5,100 communities in the United States and 20 other countries.
