Clintonville celebrates Winter Whirl next week

The 25th annual Tummy Warmer Chili and Chicken Soup Cook-Off will be among the highlights of this year’s Winter Whirl festival Jan. 24-26 in Clintonville. The cook-off will be held Jan. 25 at the Clintonville Park and Recreation Center, 55 W. 12th St. Categories include mild chili, hot chili and chicken soup. The judging will take place at 9 a.m. The public is invited to purchase tickets to sample the entries beginning at 10 a.m. Musician Grayling Pingel will perform from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the Woodland Badgers will be selling ice cream sundaes during the cook-off. Winter Whirl kicks off on Thursday with a book sale from 4-8 p.m. at the public library, 75 Hemlock St. The sale will continue from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Friday’s event include the second annual Madden Football Tournament from 5:45-10 p.m. at the Park and Recreation Center, 55 E. 12th St. The tourney will conclude on Saturday. There is a $10 entry fee. A 9-pin tap tourney will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Clintonville Lanes, 250 County Road I. The cost is $25 per person for three games. Prizes will be awarded. The seventh annual Fire on Ice Fishing Derby will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Pickerel Point. There will be cash prizes. Proceeds will benefit the Clintonville Firemen’s Association. A pizza sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, 84 S. Main St. A pie and ice cream social will be held at the Clintonville Community Center, 30 S. Main St., on Saturday. Concession stands and a craft and vendor sale will be held at both the Community Center and the Park and Recreation Center. On Sunday, a children’s carnival will be held from 1-3 p.m. at St. Rose/St. Mary School, 140 Auto St. For information on any of the activities, call Justin at 715-823-7660.
