Steve J. Yatso, 90, of Boulder City, Nev., formerly of Wisconsin, died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 5, 2014, at the home of his niece near Black Creek.
He was born Feb. 1, 1923, in Exeter, Penn., to Steven Sr. and Mary (Mikeska) Yatso. As a little boy, Steve moved with his parents to the Oconto Falls area, where he graduated high school with the Class of 1942. Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific during World War II. Following his honorable discharge from the military, he stayed in California, where he started a gym equipment manufacturing company, which he owned and operated for many years.
Steve married the former Ruth Grider, and together they lived in California and later Nevada, where they enjoyed spending time with their large family and many friends. He also enjoyed fishing with his brothers and other family members in area lakes in Wisconsin and annual trips to Canada. Steve also enjoyed receiving a variety of tasty treats from his family, especially sweets. Always a Marine, Steve felt privileged to have gone on an Honor Flight with his fellow comrades within the past two years.
Survivors are three siblings, Paul (friend Clara) Yatso and Irene Wos, both of Lena, and George (Shirley) Yatso, Oconto Falls; his constant K-9 companion, Munchie; nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; one brother, John (Marie) Yatso; one sister, Mary Weinfurter; one sister-in-law, Audrey Yatso; and one brother-in-law, Roman Wos Sr.
Visitation will be held at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls after 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, until the time of the service. Prayer services will be held at noon Saturday at the funeral home with Deacon Walt Kaszynski officiating.
Burial with military honors will take place at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, Calif.
