To the editor:
As you may know from the Times Herald’s coverage of the Oconto Falls School Board’s November meeting, the Heritage Center has expressed an interest in obtaining Spruce School, moving it to Oconto Falls and locating it on the former Jefferson School property. When this comes to fruition, the school will become the source of history for Oconto Falls and the surrounding area.
The Heritage Center members have taken on the project to move the school. As in any undertaking such as this, both money and volunteers or new members are needed to make this project a success.
The Heritage Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your contributions are tax deductible and can be made at any N.E.W. Credit Union office to the Oconto Falls Area Heritage Center savings account or to President Dale Seeling, 400 N. Main St., Oconto Falls WI 54154, to Vice President Joan Denis at the Oconto Falls Library or to Treasurer Barb Kasch at 8211 County Road E, Oconto Falls WI 54154.
The total cost to move the school has not been determined at this time. However, we have set a goal of $150,000 for the move and operating expenses.
Our hope is to acquire, record and preserve the history of Oconto Falls and the surrounding area. This information will be available to the general public free of charge.
Being a new organization, we will have a lot of growing pains, and having members will always help things flow smoothly. The membership is only $16 a year.
The center has held and will continue to hold informative meetings. Everyone is welcome to attend the Heritage Center monthly meetings at 6:30 pm. on the third Friday of every month at the Oconto Falls Library.
Dale Seeling,
president,
Oconto Falls Area Heritage Center
