Bret Ash and Dewey Krueger won championships and Oconto Falls High School took third at the 15-team Brawl in the Falls wrestling tournament Saturday in Oconto Falls.
Kaukauna (200.5) won the tournament, followed by Reedsville (178) and Oconto Falls (172.5).
After winning the tournament four years in a row, Oconto Falls has not won the tournament the last two years. The Panthers finished second to Bay Port a year ago.
Krueger won his 145-pound championship match by pinning Gillett/Suring’s Alex Zeitler in 1 minute, 45 seconds. Krueger topped Winneconne’s Jeremiah Preutz in the quarterfinal and took down Bay Port’s Dylan Sundin in the semifinal.
Ash won the 132-pound title by beating Reedsville’s Isaac Roffers by a 12-0 major decision. He beat Kaukauna’s Jacob Canner in the quarterfinal and Wausau East’s Dylan Rivera in the semifinal.
Evan Konitzer finished second for the Panthers, losing the 106-pound championship match to Kaukauna’s Trent Leon by pin in 1:43.
Jake Stoinski (126) took third, pinning Bay Port’s Collin Pepin in 5:44.
Calvin Steinmentz (220) and Nate Trepanier (138) both finished in fourth place.
Gillett/Suring (101) took seventh and Lena (20) placed 13th in the tourney.
Gillett/Suring’s Garret Kohls took second at 113 pounds, losing the championship match to Austin Siolka of Bonduel by pin in 5:52. Kohls pinned Reedsville’s Andy Spatchek 1:07 into the quarterfinal match. He beat Oconto Falls’ Austin Stanek 3-0 in the semifinal.
Zeitler pinned Reedsville’s Rhodey Sorenson in 4:31 in the quarterfinal and won a 5-2 decision over Luxemburg-Casco’s Dalton Smercheck in the semifinal before facing Krueger in the final.
Blaik Fischer led Lena, finishing fifth at 182 pounds. He pinned Wausau East’s Alex Stine in 46 seconds in the fifth-place match.
