Nancy L. Shampo

Nancy Lou (Nietzer) Shampo, 69, died unexpectedly at her home in her favorite place on Earth, Honolulu, Hawaii, on Oct. 29, 2020. Nancy was born in Gresham on Sept. 30, 1951, to Louise and Theodore Nietzer. She was united in marriage to James Shampo in the summer of 1970. He preceded her in death on March 28, 2017. She was united in marriage to Walter Felty on March 21, 2018. Nancy enjoyed life to the fullest and on her own terms. Committing the majority of her life to a career in the United States Air Force gave her the opportunities to realize her dreams of traveling and living abroad. She met Walter Felty in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1988. After separating from the USAF, she built a meaningful second career helping blind people become mobile in society. This important work took her back to her beloved Hawaii. She planned on retiring from Spark Matsunaga VA Medical Center where she was employed as a blind rehab outpatient specialist, serving blind veterans. Not only did Nancy have a zest for adventure, she was very passionate about animals. Over the years, she and Walt raised exotic birds, chocolate labs, Maine Coon cats and Arabian horses. When she wasn’t tending to her animals, you could find her researching new baking recipes or whipping up old family recipes that she loved to share with co-workers and friends. Her daring, caring and generous heart will be missed. She is survived by her husband, Walt; her daughters, Heidi (Roger) Boden, Pierson, Michigan, and Mia (Bugra) Ertas, Niskayuna, New York; her grandchildren, Cody James, McKenna Lee and Collin Michael; and one great-grandchild, Caiden James. She is also survived by sisters, Charmaine (Bill) Arendt, Gresham, and Lisa (Tim) Nietzer, Appleton; a brother, Randy Nietzer, Gresham; sister-in-laws, Judy Nietzer, Gresham, and Juliet Nietzer, Philippines; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Charles (Bill) and Jim. Private memorial services will be planned for a future date.
